Narrative Practice and
Collaborative Inquiry Study Group
Peggy Sax, Ph.D.
"I have a feel for what Peggy says about her roots in Vermont and her appreciation for the way of life there, about not wanting for the circle to become too large for all of us to notice one another and be noticed." - Mohammad Arefnia, study group member formerly from Tehran, Iran.
"In my own life I have lived experience of the invisibility of culture and diversity, and so I have a particular interest in how we can bring these rich experiences of people's lives and identities into view, whilst not contributing to a sense of "otherness. It was my awareness of the experience of marginalisation that drew me to doing this sort of work, and to narrative ideas....When I write a post, it is like a rehearsal space, where I can try out communicating an idea and then feel more clear about it later in other converstaions. There is something in the process of just writing that opens a space for self reflection and growth in itself... and when other people respond, it really adds to and enhances this!..." - Naomi Rottem, Melbourne, Australia
" I find that the comments and ideas linger,
and show up in my work from time to time....It is the sense of community
that is most important to me... I have begun to see this study group as
a kind of reflecting team, a sense of a benevolent audience that I am
sometimes aware of in my work, and that I am 'reporting' to, afterwards."
- Bonnie Miller, study group member from Toronto, Canada
"My reason for joining the study group is to keep me thinking about and reading about narrative practices. It helps me to pause and to think about my work. One of the things that I especially enjoy is the various ages and stages in life because it helps us to see things from different perspectives. I also feel quite fortunate to have people from various cultures in this study group." - Mary Brevda, study group member from Vermont, USA.
Overview: Our members wish to pursue their
own studies of narrative practice and collaborative inquiry, and to reflect
on developments in their own work. The guided study group includes a media
library with readings and recordings, exercises for practice, guest authors,
consultations with esteemed leaders in the field, and ample opportunities
for inquiry and reflection. It it is possible to join at anytime. We are
eagerly in search of new members.
Cost: A newly created yearly $200 US "club membership,"
gives all study group members access to the media library and discussion
boards. Membership includes a 2 week trial period before billing begins;
scholarship by request is available for a limited number of people that
are unemployed or on fixed agency incomes. Through a partnership with
Alliant International University, we are pleased to offer continuing education
credits (CEUs) for an additional fee for psychologists, mental health
